The main dosha involved in its cause is vatadosha which affects asthi, sandhi (joints), snayu and kandara (tendons and cartilages.
The pitta and kaphadosha is also affected which produces ama which can be compared with immune complexes within the joints resulting in tissue damage.
Treatment:
UpanahaSwedana: Dry fomentation increases the temperature which causes vasodilation and increases the blood circulation. this helps in reducing the inflammation, stiffness, and pain of the joint. It also liquifies amadosha.
Virechana karma: The amadosha is removed from the body by virechana karma which is liquified due to fomentation.
Basti: Ksharabasti helps in reducing amadosha.
