Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are tremors, nervousness, fast heart rate, fatigue, intolerance to hear, increased sweating, weight loss.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, dry skin, constipation, feeling cold, depression, hair fall, weight gain.
Marmachikitsa: Manipulation technique over dorsal digital vein, dorsal arteries, dorsal venous arch, and arcuate artery helps in thyroid disorders.
The main dosha involved in hypothyroidism is kaphadoshaanadmedo dhatu which causes reduced metabolic rate (decreased agni).
Whereas the dosha involved in hyperthyroidism is pitta dosha and vatadosha which causes increased metabolic rate (increased agni).
Treatment of hypothyroidism:
Vamana: It helps in reducing kaphadosha
Virechana: It helps in maintaining agni (metabolic rate)
Nasya karma: It stimulates olfactory nerve which acts on higher center i.e., hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Thus, acts on endocrine system
Basti: Acts on enteric nervous system and stimulates HTP axis.
Treatment of hyperthyroidism:
Virechana karma: As pitta is main dosh affected here virechana is best line of treatment to regulate pitta dosha
Snehapana and Abhayanga: It helps in reducing vatadosha.
